Trouncing the Trossachs

Trouncing the Trossachs

Scotland.

Late January.

Temperatures in low, single digits.

Fair weather though, and it’s not freezing overnight – does that sound like a good time to go out for a ride in rural Scotland on some of the more treacherous roads out there?

We thought so, so that’s exactly what we did – met up at 10am, and aimed roughly for the Dukes Pass.

The Route

No Plan – just the Duke’s Pass. It was epic. I wish I’d stopped and taken more photos – I need to figure out a way to do that quicker than I do currently.

By the time we’d got to Aberfoyle, we decided to stop and get some scran – the Aberfoyle Delicatessen is highly recommended. It’s pretty much a butcher’s shop with a grill, so you know the rolls are damned good. Go – you know you want to. Graham wants to go again, because I think he’s met his ideal Dominatrix there, but that’s another story – it does explain his love of leather though…

Despite meeting a nice policeman with a speed camera van by Loch Lomond*, and discovering what ABS on a bike saves you from (having just ridden past the army’s favourite spicy popcorn) it was a cracking day out – 215+ miles that I can’t wait to try again in the summer with fresh tyres.

*The Policeman was saying that they have people yelling “pedo” at them, which he didn’t understand – we sympathised. That’s when he mentioned his colleague was upset after selling his Harley. Someone then came out with the immortal line (with zero hate) “So he’s a homosexual and a pedo then?”. Laughter was suppressed on both sides. Good guys.
