Today, the “Muirhell Angels share” posse hit the roads and went to the lake district. Motorways, ducks, mountain passes and hopefully some rider improvement all ensued.
The Route
Starting with a blast down the motorway to Abington, then on the A roads, we made our way down to Gretna – see, we needed fuel, and the 80 mile detour seemed like the most reasonable course of action to get some.
Anyway, once we’d filled up we made our way to Keswick and then around the Honister pass – I didn’t think I’d get to ride anywhere like that within 3 months of passing my test. I will be back there.

After we made it out of the pass alive, we went across to Penrith and on to another pass – the Hartside pass. I hadn’t heard of the Hartside pass before, but it seems it’s one of the more lethal ways to get across the Pennines and further North. Some of the corners are murderous, so some discretion is advised, along with waterproof clothing. As you pass the 1900 feet above sea level mark, and are on the moors, it can get a little exposed as we found out when it began to piss down.
Thankfully we survived a moderate drenching and found ourselves in Alston – see? A quick refuelling later and we were back on the road.

From there we made our way up through Longtown and back through Gretna with a pitstop at the services at Annan and then further north via the A roads to Moffat, then the M74 and back up home.

A long day at 340+ miiles but a good day. Must do it again sometime!
